Cincinnati Children's Hospital/University of Cincinnati - CCTST
Julie Wijesooriya, MPA, Research Community Liaison
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC)
CCTST (Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training)
Julie joined Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (CCHMC) in 2016 as the Research Community Liaison, as part of the CCTST. She came to Children’s with more than 15 years of experience working with Cincinnati communities and community engagement, as well as working on and researching urban policy issues.
In her Liaison role, she handles numerous matters that impact the research participant experience. She runs two Research Participant Advisory Groups (RPAGs) that help inform research at CCHMC and the University of Cincinnati. One is located at the hospital and is focused on the experience of participating in research at CCHMC. The other is located in a Cincinnati urban neighborhood and focuses on community research, where the RPAG helps researchers better conduct research in their community and others like it. She also examines the entire research study process, looking for ways to improve the process and create better connections between research, clinical practices and the greater community.
In addition to facilitating the RPAGs, Julie is a member of CCHMC's IRB as a non-scientist, where she helps ensure research participant rights are protected.
