Structural issues impact participation in research and, to address this, organizations need to teach on how research studies can advance social justice and equity, and the challenges organizations and researchers need to overcome (such as lack of awareness of social justice, structural racism, and lack of community engagement and engagement with groups underrepresented in research studies).

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe key concepts in social justice and structural racism
  • Develop strategies for community engagement
  • Recognize structural racism in research and how HRPPs, IRBs, and researchers can improve research studies
